Cisco and Google have jointly announced to offer free high-speed Wi-Fi across 200 locations in Bengaluru over the next two months, followed by another 300 in phase II. The Wi-Fi zones will be high-traffic areas like bus stops, hospitals, govt offices in the city but not the railway stations.
Both companies are looking to take Wi-Fi spots to rural towns as well. Such Wi-Fi spots are coming after the govt announced to deploy 5 million public Wi-Fi hotspots by 2020 and 10 million by 2022. (source)
