Foodtech and quick commerce platform Zomato has brought back its former executive, Shalin Bhatt, to lead its dining-out vertical. Bhatt, who left Zomato in 2021, rejoined the company in July last year and was formally appointed as the head of dining, replacing Sankalp Kathuria, who resigned last month.

Bhatt is the third head of Zomato’s dining-out vertical in just over two years. Kathuria took on the role in late 2022, succeeding Aman Priyadarshi, who left the company at that time.

These leadership changes come as Zomato transitions its dining-out users to its newly launched District app, which will consolidate all of Zomato’s going-out offerings.

Before rejoining Zomato, Bhatt worked as an investment professional at venture capital firm Matrix Partners India (now Z47).

Beyond its food delivery and quick commerce verticals, Zomato has established going-out as a standalone business-to-consumer (B2C) vertical, for which it reports financials separately. This segment includes dining out, live events, and ticketing—an area where Zomato has been increasingly focusing over the past year.

The Gurugram-based company has also made several key appointments within its going-out segment. These include Zeenah Vilcassim, who joined Zomato Live as CEO from Bacardi, and Kunal Khambhati, a former senior executive at BookMyShow, who has taken on the role of COO at Zomato Live.

Following the acquisition of Paytm’s events and ticketing business, Zomato brought back Rahul Ganjoo and Pradyot Ghate to oversee the transition of customers from platforms like Insider, TicketNew, and Paytm to District.
