Professional education firm Imarticus Learning has acquired edtech startup MyCaptain for Rs 50 crore (approximately $6 million), marking its fourth acquisition in the past four years. This strategic move expands Imarticus Learning’s workforce to over 850 employees and brings onboard a group of ex-founders, enriching its senior leadership with entrepreneurial expertise.

Founded in 2016 by Mohammed Zeeshan, Sameer Ramesh, and Ruhan Naqash, MyCaptain is an edtech platform that empowers individuals to explore and pursue passion-driven careers. It connects students with young achievers in diverse career paths, offering mentorship and guidance in creative and entrepreneurial domains.

MyCaptain has established a strong presence across more than 1,500 campuses, with 60% of its customer base coming from tier 2 and 3 cities, and 80% of its users hailing from creative and entrepreneurial fields. The startup has raised $4.7 million in funding from investors including Ankur Capital, Firstport Ventures, Inflection Point Ventures, and the Singapore Angel Network.

MyCaptain claims to have hit a revenue of Rs 27 crore last year, with an EBITDA breakeven.

The acquisition will enable Imarticus Learning to introduce MyCaptain’s employability bootcamps in emerging fields like Digital Marketing, Design, and Content across its more than 20 classroom centres in over 16 cities. This aligns with Imarticus’ goal to expand its footprint in tier 2 and 3 cities and to reach 5 million learners over the next three years.

Previous acquisitions by Imarticus include the game-based learning platform StratOnBoard in 2022, social learning platform Eckovation in 2021, and Hero Group’s training arm Hero Mindmine in April 2023.

Commenting on the acquisition, Nikhil Barshikar, Founder and CEO of Imarticus Learning, said, “While previous acquisitions have helped us diversify our portfolio and address evolving learner needs, with MyCaptain, we aim to deepen accessibility in non-tech career domains and significantly expand our reach in tier 2+ cities.”
