Green Aero, a deep tech startup developing next-generation aero engines for defence and civilian applications, has raised $1.6 million in a Seed funding round led by pi Ventures along with participation from Antler.
The Delhi-based company had previously raised $240K in the same round back in September 2024 led by Rebalance and others.
The proceeds will be utilized to advance product development and testing, expand its team across engineering and operation, establish a state-of-the-art testing facility and accelerate the go-to-market strategy for its first engine, Green Aero said in a press release.
Founded in 2023 by Prithwish Kundu, Green Aero builds core propulsion technology for aerospace, naval and hydrogen-powered technology, a first for India for civilian aircrafts. The startup focuses on in-house R&D and extensive testing, it is developing these technologies from scratch.
Green Aero says that it is developing next-generation aero engines that aim to deliver 2X higher efficiency compared to the current global state-of-the-art models. It will be driven by the integration of a proprietary turbine technology - a world-first in aero engine design.
Looking ahead, Green Aero is also pushing the frontier of supersonic propulsion, enabled by their engines' high-thrust performance envelope. In parallel, the company is developing a green hydrogen-based engine that will offer a high-efficiency, zero-emission alternative to conventional aircraft propulsion.
Green Aero plans to commercialize its first small-category engine within the next 12 months and achieved the successful test firing of the country’s first hydrogen-powered aero engine core, called ‘The Blue Dragon’.
