AI research startup Gibran has raised $2.6 million in seed funding from Together Fund, co-founded by Girish Mathrubootham (Freshworks) and Manav Garg (Eka Software).

The proceeds will be used to develop foundational AI models trained on small datasets, with an initial focus on the drug discovery field where large datasets are often unavailable due to limited patient populations.

Founded by Govind Balakrishnan and Srikant Chakravarti, Gibran is developing models that merge large language models (LLMs) with nature-inspired systems, aiming to create AI that can recombine known patterns into novel ideas.

The approach holds promise for a wide range of industries, from scientific research and drug development to creative fields like filmmaking and design.

Its technology fuses large language models (LLMs) with nature‑inspired systems, enabling the creation of AI agents capable of generating novel insights in areas like drug discovery, scientific hypothesis generation, and creative industries.

Gibran operates on a research‑and‑platform licensing model developing proprietary AI tools and offering them to clients in sectors such as life sciences, media, and education.
