Hyderabad-based microdrama over the top (OTT) platform Chai Bisket has raised $5 million in a seed round led by InfoEdge Ventures and General Catalyst to launch Chai Shots, a regional-first, mobile-only microdrama OTT platform.
The round also saw participation from a stellar group of angel investors including Rana Daggubati, Swiggy co-founders Sri Harsha Majety and Nandan Reddy, redBus founder Phanindra Sama, Darwinbox co-founder Rohit Chennamaneni, PhysicsWallah co-founders Alakh Pandey and Prateek, Rapido co-founders, and Virgio founder Amar Nagaram.
Entrackr had exclusively reported the development last month.
Chai Shots delivers fiction content in two-minute episodes, catering to Gen Z and tier II–III audiences with premium, emotionally rich storytelling across regional languages. The platform is optimized for personal mobile viewing and plans to launch first in Telugu before scaling to Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.
The new platform is being co-led by Sharath Chandra, Anurag Reddy, and Krishna Mohan Varma, who now joins as co-founder to lead the technology vision. Chai Shots will release over 100 original shows within the first six months and is built as a content-meets-tech platform focused on fictional storytelling in a short format, unlike user-generated short video platforms.
Last month, Flick TV, a similar startup, raised $2.3 million in seed funding led by Stellaris Venture Partners, with participation from Gemba Capital and Titan Capital. Chai Shots will also face competition from Kuku FM’s Kuku TV, ShareChat’s QuickTV, Reel Saga and Reelies.
