Amazon is planning to cut about 15% of its workforce in the People eXperience and Technology (PXT) division, its human resources and internal operations unit, as per a Fortune report.

The layoffs are part of a wider cost-cutting and restructuring plan across multiple business units.

According to the report, the layoffs will affect several thousand roles globally and will take place in phases over the next few weeks. Teams in HR, recruiting, and employee experience will be the most impacted. The decision follows an internal review of overlapping functions and productivity metrics within Amazon’s corporate operations.

The report added that the current layoffs are part of a broader multi-year restructuring. Between late 2022 and 2023, Amazon cut about 27,000 corporate roles across retail, devices, and cloud businesses. The company has since continued to consolidate teams to focus on growth in logistics, AWS, and artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Entrackrhas reached out to Amazon for comments.

Amazon’s HR division, which employs more than 60,000 people globally, manages employee engagement and recruitment for over 1.5 million workers. Following the layoffs, the PXT unit will undergo an internal reorganization to consolidate regional teams and streamline management layers.
