The Indian government’s newly passed Online Gaming Bill has begun claiming casualties in the real-money gaming (RMG) sector. Games24x7’s fantasy platform My11Circle, Zupee, Gameskraft’s RummyCulture, MPL and Probo all decided to shut down operations.

According to sources, My11Circle, one of the leading fantasy sports offerings under Games24x7, has already announced the shutdown internally. The decision follows the sweeping restrictions imposed under the Bill that effectively bans real-money online games.

According to sources, MPL has shut down its real-money gaming vertical in India. However, it will continue operations in overseas markets, which contribute around 50% of its revenue.

“While new deposits will no longer be accepted, customers will be able to withdraw their balances seamlessly. However, online money games will not be available on the MPL platform anymore,” said an MPL spokesperson. “we remain committed to providing competitive, free to play, non-money based gaming experiences to our customers in India.”

Bengaluru-based Gameskraft has also discontinued RummyCulture, its flagship rummy platform, after the Bill was cleared by both Houses of Parliament this week.

“As unfortunate as it is, we respect the Government of India’s latest Online Gaming Bill. In light of this development, Probo has decided to discontinue its real money gaming operations with immediate effect until further notice,” a Probo spokesperson said in a statement.

Probo has shut down both its platforms, the opinion trading app and its fantasy cricket platform Team 11.  Going forward, platforms like SportsBaazi, MyTeam11 and others could also meet a similar outcome.

On Thursday, Zupee announced that it will shut down its real-money gaming platform while continuing to offer free-to-play games.

Kavin Bharti Mittal, founder of Hike Rush, also announced that the company is exiting India to shift its focus entirely to the United States and other international markets such as the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

Queries sent to My11Circle did not elicit any immediate response.

Earlier today, Dream11, the country’s largest fantasy sports platform, also announced internally that it would discontinue its core real money gaming business, according to an Entrackr report. RMG is Dream11’s main revenue source, and its shutdown highlights the wide impact of the new law that bans money-based online games and sets strict penalties and imprisonment for violations.
