Hybrid-electric regional aircraft maker LAT Aerospace has acquired Gurugram-based defence robotics startup Sharang Shakti, for an undisclosed amount.
“This is our first move toward building indigenous defence capabilities alongside our long-term mission of developing next-generation civil aviation platforms from India,” Goyal said in a LinkedIn post announcing the acquisition.
Goyal added that civil aviation and defence are often viewed as separate sectors but the core technology stack is shared across autonomy, perception, sensing, navigation, guidance, and control systems.
Goyal co-founded LAT Aerospace in early 2025 and has invested $20 million so far. The company is also in talks to raise another $50 million, according to media reports.
Founded in 2023 by Karan Goyal, Chirag Singla, Gaurav Kumar, Jitendra Singh and Rishabh Choudhary, Sharang Shakti develops anti-drone and aerial threat mitigation systems, including drone detection radar and interceptor technologies.
With this acquisition, LAT Aerospace plans to strengthen its capabilities in autonomous systems, defence electronics and aerospace-grade control technologies.
LAT Aerospace is building hybrid-electric regional aircraft and vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) platforms aimed at improving regional air mobility. The company had announced its launch in 2024.
The development comes over a month after Deepinder Goyal stepped down from the position of Group CEO of Zomato parent Eternal.
