Edtech firm Unacademy has promoted Abhishek Pipara to the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for its offline business, Unacademy Centres, according to a memo from CEO Gaurav Munjal to employees on Slack this Saturday.
“Abhishek has been an instrumental part of our journey, driving financial efficiency and strategic growth. With his leadership, I’m confident we will continue to scale and excel as we move forward..,” Munjal wrote on the company’s Slack channel, which was reviewed by Entrackr.
Unacademy’s offline centers provide a personalized learning experience with structured courses and dedicated mentors, along with the benefits of online learning. These centers help students prepare for various exams, including IIT JEE, NEET, UPSC, and CAT.
Pipara has been with Unacademy for around seven years, previously serving as vice president of finance. Before joining Unacademy, he held roles at Little, Zovi, and Inkfruit, among others.
Earlier this year, Unacademy also elevated Jagnoor Singh to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) for its offline centers, signaling a leadership restructuring within the company.
The appointment of a CFO comes shortly after Entrackr‘s report on Unacademy’s key financials for the last fiscal year. The SoftBank-backed company’s revenue remained flat for the fiscal year ending March 2024, but it managed to reduce its losses by an impressive 62%.
Over the past year, Unacademy has seen several senior leadership departures, including a co-founder. In August 2023, Chief Operating Officer Vivek Sinha resigned from the test prep platform, followed by Group CFO Subramanian Ramachandran, who stepped down in October. Additionally, in June this year, the company’s co-founder and CTO Hemesh Singh also exited the company.
