Amazon is now eyeing India’s quick commerce market. The e-commerce giant plans to enter the space, currently dominated by the likes of BlinkIt and Zepto, in the first quarter of 2025.

Economic Times reports that Nishant Sardana, the category leader for smartphones and accessories, has been given the mandate to lead the quick commerce vertical.

The development comes shortly after Amazon’s local rival, Flipkart, entered the quick commerce business with Flipkart Minutes. Meanwhile, Tata Digital-owned BigBasket has also announced its 100% pivot to the quick delivery space.

Like Flipkart and BigBasket, Amazon has been offering grocery delivery through Amazon Fresh on a scheduled basis. However, its entry in quick commerce is expected to impact market leaders such as Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart.

Recently, media reports suggested that Amazon was in talks to acquire Swiggy Instamart. While there is no clarity on the deal yet, ET added that there is an ongoing discussions between the two companies.

According to a report by brokerage firm UBS, Zomato-owned Blinkit leads the quick commerce sector with a 40-45% market share as of July. Instamart holds a 20-25% market share, followed by Zepto and BigBasket with 15-20% and 10-15% shares, respectively.

Amazon’s quick commerce plans also coincide with the exit of Manish Tiwary, country manager for Amazon India, who stepped down after serving eight years with the company. Tiwary will remain with Amazon until October, and he will be replaced by Amit Agarwal, vice president of India and emerging markets.
