According to data sourced from Sensor Tower, Threads has amassed 90 million downloads as of July 8.  The data for July 9 is yet to be updated on the platform. The application is available for both iOS and Android users.

With over 20 million downloads, India is on top with nearly 25% contribution to the total number of downloads. This was followed by Brazil, US, Mexico and UK with 18 million, 15 million and 5 million and 4 million downloads respectively.

Country wise, users break up could not be ascertained. Meta launched Threads on July 6 for iOS and Android users in 100 countries. The app surpassed 2 million sign ups in two hours of launch and 10 million users in seven hours.

Touted as Twitter-killer, Threads’ popularity can be attributed to billions of users of Instagram. Soon after the launch of the new app, Twitter threatened to sue Meta over Threads app. In a letter dated July 6, Twitter's lawyer Alex Spiro accused Meta of hiring former Twitter employees who had and continue to have access to Twitter's trade secrets and other highly confidential information.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk has sued the law firm that helped force him to buy Twitter. Musk claims that law firm Wachtell Lipton violated its fiduciary duty by collecting $90 million in fees.
