Edtech company Byju's has appointed Arjun Mohan, the former chief executive officer of upGrad, as the CEO of its international business. This is a homecoming for Mohan, who had over a decade-old stint at Byju’s.

Mohan completed three years at Upgrad in January this year. Before his return, Byju Raveendran was looking after the global operations while Mrinal Mohit was leading the company's India operations.

During his previous stint at Byju’s, Mohan worked in several capacities, including as consultant and vice president. He also held the chief business officer (CBO) position between 2019 and 2020.

The information about Mohan’s return to Byju’s first appeared in the anonymous social media app Grapevine. Entrackr has reached out to Byju’s for comment.

Currently, Byju's has entities in Singapore, the US, and the Middle East, which collectively contributed more than Rs 1,000 crore to the company's revenue in FY21. The financial results for FY22 are yet to be filed by Byju's.

Byju’s recently held a virtual extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to discuss the ongoing issues, including corporate governance. During the meeting, the company’s CEO Raveendran announced setting up a board advisory committee to guide and advise the company. As per media reports, the company did not discuss mass layoffs and other crucial developments happening at the firm.

Byju’s has faced several troubles in the past few months including haircut in valuation, the resignation of key board members and auditors, along with issues related to loan default, Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) and Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Byju’s, however, has been saying that it has not received any communication from MCA after a report suggested that the Indian government had ordered a probe into the account books of the edtech company.
