The weather tried playing spoilsport, but the teams meant business. The excitement at Wisteria Sports Club was palpable this Sunday when MakeMyTrip and Pristyn Care were ready to play the finals of Entrackr’s Unicorn Premier League. After a nail-biting match, MakeMyTrip beat Pristyn Care by seven runs.
MakeMyTrip decided to bat after winning the toss, which has been their strategy throughout the series. Their team was able to score a whopping 122 in 11 overs, courtesy of a powerful inning by Surjeet Singh, who scored 40 off 14. Manish Bisht (26 off 16) was the second-highest scorer for the team. Pristyn Care’s Pulkit Jain was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped two wickets.
Chasing the target, Pristyn Care fell short by 7 runs. Jai Prakash was the leading scorer for the unicorn followed by Rohan Kulshreshtha. From MakeMyTrip, Manish Bisht bagged 2 wickets.
Somraj Mukherjee (OfBusiness) was named the Purple Cap winner for conquering the highest number of wickets throughout the tournament at 11, while Nikhil Gusain (MMT) won the Orange Cap for the tournament for making the highest number of runs (305). Ankit Gupta (Pristyn Care) bagged the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award for overall contribution with bat (283 runs) and ball (6 wickets).
Electric scooter maker Bounce sponsored the Purple and Orange cap awards which were one electric bike each, whereas ‘Player of the Tournament’ award was sponsored by used car retailing platform Spinny, giving the winner a Honda Jazz car.
Earlier in the day, OYO handed OfBusiness a 45-run defeat to win the third spot in the tournament. Batting first the OYO team scored 139 runs in 11 overs. OfBusiness scored 94 runs in response.
The UPL 2023 kicked off on February 24 with India’s top unicorns, including boAt, The Good Glamm Group, OYO, OfBusiness, and many more participating in matches that took place over the weekend. The cricket tournament — sponsored by Probo, powered by Sequoia Capital India, and supported by Value360 — delivered some thrilling matches and top-notch sportsmanship from players. It’s worth mentioning that nearly 50 partners such as Slice, Bounce, Spinny, Success Pact, Fast&Up, SleepyOwl, Redis, Sorted, Cannarma, The Man Company, Jar and MPL also supported the event.
The final match was followed by a closing ceremony, where legendary cricketer and co-founder of Cricuru, Virender Sehwag was present to award the winners along with several key names from the startup ecosystem, such as boAt founder Aman Gupta, former co-founder of BharatPe Ashneer Grover, IvyCap Ventures managing partner Tej Kapoor, Snapdeal co-founder Kunal Bahl, MobiKwik co-founder Upasana Taku, and Spinny founder Niraj Singh.
