Noise bootstrapped its way to Rs 800 Cr revenue in FY22

Barely any venture-backed firms have managed 7X growth in their scale in the last two fiscal years, but gadget and wearables brand Noise achieved this feat in FY22 with its operating revenue touching Rs 800 crore from Rs 155 crore in FY20.

Noise deals in smartwatches, wireless earphones and speakers, which are available on their website and e-commerce marketplaces.

The sale of these consumer electronic products was the only source of revenue for Noise which surged 2.2X to Rs 793 crore in FY22 from Rs 350 crore in FY21, according to its annual financial statements with the Registrar of Companies (RoC).

The Gurugram-based company also had a financial income of Rs 12.17 crore, which shot up around 6.5X when compared to FY21.

Being an electronics manufacturer, the cost of material consumed naturally became the highest cost center for the company which formed around 79% of its overall expenses. This cost grew 2.6X to Rs 597 crore in FY22 from Rs 226 crore in FY21. With Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Taapsee Pannu as their brand ambassadors, its marketing cost ballooned 2.7X to Rs 89.5 crore in FY22.

Noise’s expenses on employee benefits grew 50.3% to Rs 21.5 crore in FY22. The company added another Rs 14.7 crore in warranty claims which pushed its overall cost by 2.4X to Rs 757 crore.

With over 2.5X surge in cost, its profit remained flat with 9% growth to Rs 36 crore in FY22 from Rs 33 crore in FY21.

Moving over to ratios, its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at 49.46% and 5.84% in FY22. On a unit level, Noise spent Re 0.95 to earn a single unit of operating revenue in the last fiscal year.

Founded in 2014 by Amit and Gaurav Khatri, Noise primarily competes with Goldman Sachs-backed boAt which is yet to disclose its financial numbers for the fiscal year ending March 2022. boAt had ended FY21 with an operating income of Rs 1500 crore while its profit jumped 61% to Rs 79 crore.
