Grocery marketplace BigBasket has forayed into offline retail by opening a new tech-driven Amazon Go like self-service ‘Fresho’ store at Basaveshwar Nagar, Bengaluru.
Entrackr had exclusively reported the development on October 28
With this, customers can now place orders online and handpick groceries and daily essentials from the Fresho stores. The launch is part of the company’s vision to open 200 physical outlets pan India by 2023 and 800 by 2026.
Fresho stores cater to self-billing counters integrated with video AI tools that enable customers to pick items of their choice and weigh them at the counter through automatic computer vision that can identify the items and generate bills accordingly.
The stores will give access to the next 500 million customers who have not yet started buying groceries online and create a new growth opportunity for BigBasket.
The Tata-backed enterprise currently operates in 40 Indian cities and claims to serve 12 million customers orders per month. Last year the firm generated annual revenues of $1 billion.
