Professional email service Titan has raised $30 million from Automattic, the parent entity of Wordpress. This is the first funding round for the Mumbai-based company which is a brainchild of serial entrepreneur Bhavin Turakhia.
Titan is an email service meant for professionals and businesses with premium features such as streamlining workflows and automating tasks, said the company in a press statement. The statement also claimed that this is the single largest investment ever made by Automattic and values Titan at $300 million.
“We are excited to make our largest strategic investment to date in Titan, and we are working to integrate it deeply on WordPress as a tool to help customers build a professional brand online,” said Matt Mullenweg, founder and CEO of Automattic.
Titan is part of Nova group, which also owns and operates Flock. Nova currently has over 150 employees across India, the US, and the middle-east.
Turakhia is probably one of very few entrepreneurs who has been running three startups at a time. He also runs banking infrastructure startup Zeta, internet domain registry platform Radix and a Slack kind of enterprise messaging platform Flock.
Last month, Zeta had turned a unicorn with a $250 million round from storied Japanese investor SoftBank. At present, it claims to power 10 banks and 25 fintech solutions across eight countries. Turakhia had committed to invest$25 million in Flock in 2017.
According to the company, Titan is available to users exclusively through its partnerships with leading domain service providers, including WordPress. The company doesn’t have direct competition, but it indirectly competes with Microsoft, Zoho and Gmail.
