PUBG Corporation is preparing to launch ‘PUBG Mobile India, the company said in a statement, announcing its plans to return to India after a move by the government in September led to a ban causing much heartbreak for the popular mobile game’s users.
The South Korean company has also revealed its plans to make investments worth $100 million in India to cultivate the local video game, esports, entertainment, and IT industries.
“Outside of the manufacturing industry, these investments will represent the largest made by a Korean company. Thanks to overwhelming community enthusiasm for PUBG esports in India, the company also plans to make investments by hosting India-exclusive esports events, which will feature the biggest tournaments, the largest prize pools, and the best tournament productions,” the company said.
The new game has been created specifically for the Indian market but the company hasn’t commented on the release date.
PUBG Corporation also announced plans to create an Indian subsidiary to enhance communications and services with players and that the company will hire over 100 employees specializing in business, esports, and game development.
In addition, the company will look to actively collaborate and leverage local businesses to strengthen its gaming service.
On September 2, the Indian government had banned PUBG in the country. Soon after the ban, PUBG Corporation had ended its publishing ties with Tencent Games in India and later terminated all service and access for users in India with effect from October 30.
While the decision of banning PUBG in India was taken in the best interest of the country, PUBG said that privacy and security of Indian player data will be a top priority.
The firm will conduct regular audits and verifications on the storage systems holding Indian users’ personally identifiable information to reinforce security and ensure that their data is safely managed.
