JioMart crosses 4 lakh orders a day with rapid expansion underway

After two months of launching the beta version and nearly two weeks of launching its mobile app, the Reliance India Limited-owned JioMart has become the largest e-grocery in the country with 400K daily orders.

This is a remarkable jump in the number of daily orders. On July 15, during Reliance’s 43rd AGM, Mukesh Ambani had said that JioMart crossed 250,000 orders a day. The number of downloads for JioMart also jumped to over 1.5 million in these two weeks.

“JioMart is leveraging the wide network of Reliance Retail’s grocery stores and well-established supply chain infrastructure to become India’s largest hyperlocal retail solution,” said JioMart in a media statement.

JioMart claims that it is delivering a higher volume than any other home-grown e-grocer. In comparison, Bigbasket with its micro delivery platform BBDaily delivers around 250-300K orders a day. In contrast, other major competitors like Grofers and Amazon Pantry serve a little over 100K orders daily.

Last week, Entrackr had reported that JoiMart was set to become the largest e-grocer in India. Besides grocery and vegetables, the company is also planning to add categories including electronics, medicine and fashion before the upcoming festive season.

The move is likely to catapult the number of daily orders beyond 700K in the next six to eight weeks. According to Entrackr’s sources, JioMart has close to 13,500 kirana stores on its platform, and this number is likely to reach 30,000 before the festive season.

Experts believe that JioMart has the potential to disrupt the online grocery segment in a few years. According to a Goldman Sachs report, JioMart is likely to dominate 50% of online grocery in India by 2024.

While JioMart has surpassed the scale of all incumbents, its operations need to be streamlined as users complain about restrictions and experience. For instance, one can only order 4 SKUs of many products. It is not clear whether this is to curb fake orders or for other reasons. Many people also complain about missing items from the ordered list.
