Paytm Mall shifts its headquarters to Bengaluru, appoints Abhishek Rajan as COO

Paytm Mall, the e-commerce arm of One97 Communications, has shifted its operating base from Noida to Bengaluru and plans to hire over 300 new employees in product & technology roles.

This development has come within two weeks of Entrackr exclusively reporting about Paytm Mall’s plans of shifting its base from Noida.

The existing workforce has been provided with the flexibility to either shift to Bengaluru or continue working from their current location in various roles, the company said in a statement.

In a separate development, Paytm Mall has appointed Abhishek Rajan as its Chief Operating Officer. The company’s former COO, Srinivas Mothey, has now been elevated as Senior Vice President Merchants Solutions at Paytm.

Rajan has been with Paytm as its SVP & head of travel business for close to 5 years now. With over 17 years of experience in e-commerce and payments, he has also headed the B2C e-commerce and B2B digital payments businesses for One97 Communications from 2009 to 2012.

“I am very happy to see the way Abhishek has built and led the travel business for us. In the post-COVID world, we want to bring commerce to even more customers and serve the SMEs across the country,” Vijay Shekhar Sharma, founder & CEO of Paytm, said commenting on his appointment.

Rajan will continue to lead Paytm's travel vertical till the time a new business head is appointed, the company added.

The relocation of headquarters and the appointment of a new COO has come in the backdrop of e-commerce operations struggling to operate for the past eight weeks due to a nationwide lockdown.

Like any other e-commerce platform, Paytm Mall has also witnessed its business plummet by over 80%. The relocation is expected to help in strengthening its operations in the southern part of India.

Paytm Mall is also in talks with Grofers and Milkbasket for a potential investment as it looks to ramp up its grocery vertical. Entrackr had exclusively reported this development on May 28.
