Swiggy Go officially launches in Bengaluru; expands ‘Stores’ to more cities

Foodtech major Swiggy has officially unveiled its pick up and drop service ‘Swiggy Go’. As the name sounds, it would be a dunzo kind of instant pick up and drop facility to send packages anywhere in the city.

According to the Naspers-backed company, Go can be used to pick up and drop off laundry, get forgotten keys, send lunch boxes from home to office or even deliver documents or parcels to clients.

Two months ago, Entrackr had exclusively reported about soft launch of Swiggy Go.

Backed by a robust existing delivery fleet, Swiggy claims to offer the best service to consumers at a very affordable price. Unlike Swiggy’s on-demand delivery service Swiggy Stores, Go is a plug and play model that requires a simple training to existing fleets.

The service is currently live in Bengaluru. According to Entrackr‘s sources, it will be launched in major metros by the next quarter.

Interestingly, Dunzo is also on a robust expansion plan and very close to raise a $50 million round from the likes of Lightbox VC and existing investors, including Google this month.

While industry experts believe that Swiggy Go will make a dent on Dunzo’s business, the latter’s plan to expand to 200 locations in 20 cities by next year is going to make it more competitive.

As of now, Dunzo claims to have over 35,000 two-wheeler delivery partners and has partnered with over 5,000 local merchants in cities like Bengaluru, Pune, Gurugram, Delhi, Noida, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai.

Sources emphasised that Swiggy will expand Go to over 300 cities and S Stores to all the major metros by 2020.

Of late, Swiggy was reportedly in talks with Bounce to launch bike taxi services. The move will add another arrow in Swiggy’s quiver to fight against Dunzo.

Moreover, Swiggy is expanding Swiggy Stores for consumers to order from every store in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Like Go, Stores also started the business from Gurugram.

Entrackr had exclusively reported about the launch of Store in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Swiggy Stores will now deliver from stores in ten categories which include Fruits and Vegetables, Kiranas and Supermarkets, Meat stores and Pharmacies.

The foodtech unicorn has tied up with 300 merchant-partners in Bengaluru and close to 200 partners like Easyday, Apollo Pharmacy, Healthkart, Ferns N Petals, Licious and FreshToHome in Hyderabad.
