The top player for electric vehicles in the market, Mahindra & Mahindra is using its positions and resources to start a new mobility solutions application to tap in the shared transportation segment.
Named Glyd, the application will connect customers who are ready to pay a 10 per cent premium on the market (Uber) rates to travel experiencing higher productivity.
The obvious target market of the corporate clients, through Glyd will get to utilize their time wasted away in traffic jams with personalized solutions like video conferencing and entertainment via video content and music.
For video conferencing, the company has partnered with Cisco and Vodafone will deliver the digital content and connectivity features.
These EVs will also have unique features like privacy screens, strain-free lighting, and air purifiers.
The company believes that the millennial corporate generation is ready to pay a higher price for higher productivity, and in hubs like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune; M&M can create a good business out of its unique offering.
Initially, the EV fleet will launch 50 e-Verito on a few select routes like Lower Parel Hubs and Bandra Kurla Complexes in Mumbai, reports ET. The operations will expand into other cities in next one year.
The launch of Glyd isn’t the only e-mobility solution that M&M plans on for the company. Multiple offerings will be made across cities. Neither is this a surprising move as last year the company had announced that mobility services will be a new vertical that Mahindra will foray into.
It also promised that these services will not be alike Ola and Uber. Glyd is clearly the first and flagship product in this vertical by Mahindra.
To promote the use of EVs the company had entered into a long-running partnership with Zoomcar and has been operating fleets in several cities across India having a budget of Rs 900 crores for EV products since last year.
