In one more addition to many unique offerings to its users, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has launched JioRail app. This will allow the owners of JioPhone users to book or cancel tickets from their phones.
Users can check PNR status as well as view train information, timings, routes, and seat availability on the app itself. It also allows for Tatkal booking. Similar to IRCTC, users, who do not have accounts, are allowed to create an account through the JioRail app. It accepts online and card payments such as debit cards, credit cards, and e-wallets.
India’s consumers can avoid standing in long queues or pay agent fees to book tickets and instead enjoy an enhanced digital life experience, the company said in a statement.
In future, the company plans to offer live status and food ordering feature on the app. The JioRail app is available for download directly from the Jio Store on the original JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
Among unique offerings, last year Jio had added WhatsApp, Facebook, Google Maps and YouTube on JioPhone. It also emerged as the market leader in the feature phone category, with a 47 per cent market share, according to statistics by Counterpoint Research.
Since the launch of its feature phone, Jio has witnessed exceptional growth in this category. Its subscriber base is expected to be around 40 million.
The growth signifies that telecom users in smaller cities and rural areas still prefer functional benefits of feature phones such as low cost, durability and battery life amongst others.
Mukesh Ambani-led firm aims to have 100 million JioPhone users in the next few years.
