A few months ago, with the exit of Taranjeet Singh from Twitter, and leaving the position of Twitter India Head in the hands of Balaji Krish as the interim head, the top four social media of India were officially running without Indian heads.
However, a few days later, Facebook started the cycle reappointment of Indian heads, by picking Hotstar CEO Ajit Mohan as India's head. About two months later, WhatsApp had chosen Ezetap CEO Abhijit Bose to control its India operations.
Now, LinkedIn has followed suit in this series of developments with choosing Mahesh Narayanan as India Country Manager. He replaced Akshay Kothari, who had quit the position in September to return to States.
Narayanan will be joining the Microsoft owned professional networking platform on January 7, 2019. In past, he has served as India Managing Director in Saavn (now JioSaavn), led Google India’s mobile advertising business, and has played the role of market-entry strategist for companies such as Sociomantic Labs and AdMob.
As LinkedIn India Country Manager, Narayanan will be reporting to Oliver Legrand, Asia-Pacific head of the networking company.
LinkedIn currently has a global reach of 590 million members and India alone accounts 53 million, almost 10 per cent of its members. This makes India a strategic market for the growth of the company.
Overall, as far as the four top social media networks are concerned, only Twitter is remaining in the cycle of reappointing India's head.
