Finally, the family of Sonia Dhawan, a key accused in Paytm extortion case has appealed for her bail before the Surajpur District Sessions Court. This ends the numerous speculations over Dhawan's family reluctance in filing her bail application.
The development comes against the backdrop of Rupak Jain's (Dhawan husband) bail plea rejected by a special court in Delhi.
For Jain, the family had already moved the bail application to Allahabad High Court. His bail plea was denied as his crime was very serious as told by the court order.
For Dhawan, the hearing for bail will take place on November 23. The district court also extended their (Dhawan and Jain) judicial custody till December 3, reports Moneycontrol.
While Jain has been denying all allegation against him, Dhawan has not made any statement since her arrest on October 22.
The case has already gone through many twist and turns. After the arrest of Dhawan, Jain and another Paytm employee Devendra Kumar, the police has been scouting for the fourth accused Rohit Chomal.
According to Paytm CEO's brother Ajay Shekhar Sharma, Chomal had made multiple calls via WhatsApp from Kolkata and named Dhawan, Jain, and Kumar for being partnered in the Rs 20 crore extortion.
Police is yet to find any trace of Chomal and he is still on the run. Previously, Jain had also filed a complaint saying that he received a similar ransom call of Rs 5 crore and threatened over phone to pay the sum.
