Acquisitions in microdelivery, especially in the milktech segment has become the latest phenomenon in India. After Swiggy and Bigbasket's acquisition over SuprDaily and Morningcart respectively, Dailyninja has acquired Hyderabad-based WakeupBasket.
The development comes within a month of DailyNinja's $5 million funding round led by Matrix Partners with participation from existing investors Sequoia India and Saama Capital.
Following the acquisition, all the employees including WakeupBasket's founders and its customer base will be absorbed by DailyNinja, reports ET.
Based out of Bengaluru, DailyNinja has operations in Hyderabad and Chennai as well. It claims to have a daily transaction of 35,000 and serving over 45,000 households across the cities.
The cash and stock acquisition deal will help DailyNinja to have a stronghold in Hyderabad, where WakeupBasket claims to clocks about 2,500 orders on daily basis. DailyNinja has been looking to expand its horizon in Hyderabad for a long time. In August, it acquired milk and daily essentials delivery platform 4amShop in an undisclosed amount.
During the last funding round, DailyNinja also confirmed Entrackr about its expansion plan into several cities including Mumbai, Pune, and Delhi (NCR). Further, it aims to clock 100,000 daily transactions in the next six months.
With the acquisition and expansion plan in the aforementioned cities, DailyNinja will become a close competitor to Gurugram-based Milkbasket.
Meanwhile, Future Group is also set to launch the home delivery service of daily essentials such as milk, eggs, and bread at customers’ doorstep.
