Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, has unveiled its second data centre for India. Launched by Alex Li, General Manager, Alibaba Cloud India during the ‘Chindia TMT Dialogue 2018’, the new zone will complement Availability Zone A which was opened in Mumbai in January this year.
The new availability zone is part of Alibaba Cloud’s strategy to expand its global footprint in order to serve a growing client base while also targeting new local customers.
One of the top three IaaS providers in the world, Alibaba Cloud will offer product lines such as Elastic Computing, Storage, Database, Network, Application Services, and Big Data Analytics to support the requirements of local governments and enterprises in the Alibaba Cloud India Region.
“The commencement of the second availability zone reiterates Alibaba’s focus on India as a key market in Alibaba Cloud’s global expansion strategy”, said Alex Li during the conference held in JW Marriott, New Delhi on September 28, 2018.
Li Baijun, the commerce counselor of the Chinese Embassy was also present at the launch.
Further, the dual availability zones will enhance the level of security of Alibaba Cloud’s data centers in India.
Besides, Alibaba Cloud is planning to train 1,000 sales & technology personnel and onboard one lakh customers in India by March 2019.
Launched in 2009, Alibaba Cloud currently has 50 availability zones across 18 economic centres globally including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Australia, the Middle East, Europe, the US, and India.
Alibaba Cloud’s clientele base in India includes Paytm, NowFloats, Krazybee, and others.
Prior to Alibaba, Microsoft was first to establish data centre in Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai while Amazon also established its first data centre infrastructure in Mumbai in 2016.
