Reliance Jio 2.O to disrupt further: Announces broadband service and upgraded JioPhone 2

Jio Phone

Reliance Jio is nothing but a digital revolution in India as far as cheap mobile phone and low-cost high-speed internet connectivity is concerned. With over 215 million customers, the Mukesh Ambani-led company has been exploring all possible segments of the Internet.

If we think the company is only limited to offer low-cost 4G and feature phones then we must go through the announcements made by the country’s richest personality at Reliance annual general meeting 2018.

When it comes to the Internet and technology, the company has left no stone unturned to grab one of the fastest growing markets in the world. According to Ambani, Reliance Jio has enabled Reliance Industries to strategically reinvent itself as a technology platform company.

Today, Reliance Jio has launched its fibre-based fixed-line broadband services. Dubbed as JioGigaFiber, the broadband connectivity will be extended to homes, merchants, small and medium enterprises and large enterprises.

Through JioGigaFiber, a fibre to the home (FTTH) broadband service, the company is targeting 5 crores Jio GigaFiber home customers and 3 crore small merchants and shop-keepers.

It is considered as revolutionary because currently, fibre cable reaches till the main building while a copper cable is used for the last connections which affect the internet speed.

Under the plan, Reliance Jio will cover 1,110 cities of India.

The next announcement is JioPhone 2. The new avatar of the highest selling feature phone in India will be available at an introductory price of Rs 2,999. It will be available from 15 August.

Meanwhile, Jio customers have been expecting for an upgraded version of existing JioPhone with an integration of sought-after apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube. Ambani has announced that these apps will be available in JioPhone from August 15.

Talking about his e-commerce foray, Ambani has quite a different plan from other existing models in the country. The 41st annual general meeting, he emphasised that he sees the biggest growth opportunity for Reliance Retail in creating a hybrid online-offline market.

For its new commerce platform, the RIL will develop a synergy between Reliance Retail and Jio.

To bring small retail players in the online format, Reliance aims to create an ecosystem by integrating pharmacies and small grocery stores through its digital platforms.
