Fighting the lone battle against the recently concluded Walmart-Flipkart deal, Swadeshi Jagran Manch has claimed to have an assurance from none other than union minister for commerce Suresh Prabhu.
Since the development on the biggest deal of Indian e-commerce history, the right-wing group and an affiliate of RSS has been criticising the US-based retail giant as well as Indian e-commerce marketplace for flouting FDI norms.
Besides, both have been blamed for promoting loss funding and predatory pricing culture in Indian e-commerce space.
According to an ET report, Ashwani Mahajan-- SJM’s national co-convenor claimed to have received an assurance from Prabhu saying that he will examine the issue.
Mahajan has said that it is against the interest of small traders and even the government's flagship ‘Make in India’ mission. Claiming the deal as illegal, he also blamed the government for showing its inefficiency in the matter.
The matter gradually seems to be gaining grounds as SJM has been pursuing the impacts of the recently concluded deal.
SJM has also taken Flipkart into the matter saying that the e-commerce marketplace platform is not working in compliance with government's FDI policy as well as the B2B model.
In their earlier instance, SJM wrote a letter to PM and Prabhu alleging that entry of the US retail giant will eliminate the small and medium businesses, small shops, and opportunity to create more jobs.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) also criticised the Modi government for taking a U-turn from its earlier view on foreign capital dumping. Besides, SJM also staged a protest in New Delhi calling for the deal to be scrapped.
It's unclear that how far the protest will go on but the issues raised by SJM as well as sellers association and traders body are unlikely to taper down.
