The ongoing frenzy around the latest model which comes with specs including Octa core - 2.8 GHz processor and 6GB RAM is expected to escalate as the sales resume from today. Since OnePlus 6 is priced at Rs 34,999, it had sold out about 28,572 units in first 10 minutes of sales.

The unprecedented demand would be strengthening the position of the Oppo-owned company in the premium smartphone category. Currently, OnePlus claims to have about 25 per cent market share in the premium smartphone category.

With the popularity of OnePlus 5T, the company had recently left Apple (with 20 per cent market share) behind in terms of sales. According to the Counterpoint research data, OnePlus 5T was the best-selling model during Q3 2017, driven by its limited edition variant and expansion in the offline segment.

Besides premium smartphone segment, the company has been weighing chances of launching a range of smart television. The move is likely to be driven by Xiaomi success into television vertical. It also held preliminary talks with Amazon India for having potential synergies in the television segment.

At present, the premium smartphone category is being dominated by Samsung, OnePlus, and Apple. Together, they own about three quarters market share in the premium smartphone category. Sensing an opportunity, Huawei had entered top-end handset segment with its P-series range.
