Budget Smartphone market in India
In the Indian market, smartphone makers are leaving no stone unturned to cease the budget smartphone market.
Bharti Airtel earlier had announced the launch of two new Android-powered 4G smartphones in partnership with handset maker Karbonn Mobiles. Bharti Airtel said the A1 Indian 4G smartphone will be available at an effective price of Rs. 1,799, as against the maximum retail price of Rs. 4,390.
The move came after Reliance Jio, a unit of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd, introduced Jio Phone, its 4G-capable feature phone. This comes with unlimited data and optional TV streaming that is essentially free for subscribers who will merely pay a Rs 1,500 security deposit refundable after three years. Reliance Jio has sold six million of its Jio Phone so far.
