Online ticketing booking company BookMyShow has partnered with PVR Pictures for ’Vkaao’, a web-platform that allows individuals to choose films they want to watch at their local PVR cinemas.
Launched in January this year, Vkaao is first of its kind ‘on-demand’ offering by PVR that allows individuals to choose the films that play in their local theatres. It currently has a library of over 400 studio and independent titles and plans to grow this collection manifold over the next 12 months.
As part of the association of Bookmyshow and PVR Pictures have come together to bring curated content by empowering the fans and moviegoers to choose films, screening time, and theatre locations at any PVR Cinema across the country, reported BusinessLine.
Once a threshold demand is reached, the screening is finalised and customers are informed of the same. In case a screening isn’t confirmed, the ticket fee is refunded.

“Its early days to talk of revenues. Vkaao will help us increase footfall and revenues definitely follow. In the first few months, we have already done 200-250 shows and we are looking at more than 1,000 screenings in next 5-6 months,” said Kamal Gianchandani, CEO, and chief of strategy PVR Pictures.
Last month, BookMyShow tied up with Amazon to allow transactions on its platform using Seattle-based company’s payment arm Amazon Pay. Indian e-commerce major Flipkart was also in talks with movie and event ticket booking platform.
After acquiring food recommendation app Burrp in July, BookMyShow took over on-demand audio and video platform Nfusion for an undisclosed amount in an all-cash-deal.
