To beef up its logistics operations ahead of the festive season, Amazon India announced its second fulfilment centre (FC) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, which is spread over close to 120,000 square feet with over 350,000 cubic feet of storage space.
It will empower thousands of small & medium businesses to leverage the growth of the digital economy and reach a wide customer base. The FC will also create numerous skilling and employment opportunities for the youth across the country.
This is one of the seven recently announced fulfilment centres for this year. In May 2017, the US-headquartered retailer opened new fulfilment centres in Telangana, Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
With this now Amazon will have 41 fully operational Fulfilment Centres in India before the festive season begins.
“In line with our vision to transform the way India buys and sells, we have been consistently investing in enhancing our capabilities to provide a superior experience to both – buyers and sellers. With the launch of a second Fulfilment Centre in Gujarat, we strongly believe that we will be able to better serve our Prime customers with one-day & two-day delivery,” said Akhil Saxena, Vice President, India Customer Fulfilment, Amazon India.

US-based e-tailer, which has committed an investment of $5 billion in the Indian market, have 41 warehouses across 13 states. The company plans to pour in Rs 400 crore into its Indian logistics arm to expand its business operations. After hiring a large number of people in US, Amazon is now looking to hire over 12,00 professionals in India.
