Amazon has announced a worldwide exclusive content deal with Bollywood star Salman Khan Ventures.
The landmark deal with the Sultan of Bollywood makes Amazon Prime Video the exclusive streaming home of future titles of Salman Khan commencing with the recently released Tubelight.
Announcing the deal James Farrell, head of content, Prime Video, Asia Pacific, said, "Salman is a huge star with a massive global fan following. This exclusive Worldwide Prime Video streaming deal with him is one of the biggest star deals to have ever been done in the World. India is a top priority market for Amazon and we believe that the love India has for films, the passion, the energy and the talent of India needs to be on a Worldwide stage for global audiences to see."
After their theatrical release, Salman's films will first premiere on the Prime Video, which will be two months before Television broadcast or any other kind of distribution.
The company will also have access to his prior films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kick, Jai Ho and Hero along with his upcoming new releases.
Speaking on the occasion Salman said in statement that Amazon Prime Video reaches over 200 countries and territories and I am happy to collaborate with Amazon Prime Video and expand the reach of Indian cinema. Fans of Indian cinema will discover my movies on a new platform and the platform will also help new fans discover our cinema.
Earlier, Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan had signed deals with Netflix, who will stream the superstars' videos and movies on their network. Netflix is also bidding for the rights of Rajnikanth's upcoming 2.0 movie. Sequel to Tamil film Enthiran, the sci-fi movie is expected to release later this year.
In the past, Amazon has also inked deals with major Indian studios such as Dharma Productions, Vishesh Films and T-Series to offer catalog and new blockbuster titles.
