Bengaluru-based gaming startup Hypernova Interactive has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Kae Capital.
Hypernova Interactive, is one of the leading game development companies in India and has a global footprint in games design and development.
Shubhankar Bhattacharya, venture partner at Kae Capital said, "We believe that mobile games, especially those that capitalise on multiplayer and esports, is a large and rapidly growing market. We believe the Hypernova team matches up to the standards set by top global gaming companies, both in their execution capabilities, and their overall vision."
Subhankar also added that it's Kae's first investment in a gaming company, reported ET.
Hypernova Interactive was founded in October 2015 by gaming professionals Mayur Bhimjiyani and Huzaifa Arab. Bhimjiyani was a lead designer on some of Zynga's games like FarmVille and CastleVille, while Arab was principal game designer with Hike Messenger's games division.
"With the advent of mobile phones, the gaming industry has seen explosive growth in the past few years. We are focused on building top gaming experiences for global audiences as well," said Bhimjiyani.
India has been pacing in parallel with other countries in digital gaming and gaming technology. India ranked fifth globally in terms of game downloads, and is soon expected to surpass Russia and Brazil to become one of the top three gaming markets in the world. Gaming and technology enthusiasts are entering the market to meet the rising demand for interactive games and tap into the potential of this business niche.
With greater penetration of smartphones and handheld devices, more access to reliable and fast internet, the online gaming industry is poised for big growth.
As per Global Games Market Report by Newzoo, provider of market intelligence covering global games, e-sports and mobile market, the 2.2 billion gamers across the globe are expected to generate $108.9 billion in revenues in 2017. This represents an increase of $7.8 billion, or 7.8%,from the year before. In 2020, mobile gaming will represent just more than half of the total games market.
