Leather industry in India has asked the import duty on Chinese footwear to be increased from 25% to 35%. This issue was discussed recently with the department of commerce as the industry feels that right now in the leather and footwear sector, the balance of trade is in favour of China.
China who is the fifth largest importer of leather and leather items in the world has a share of around 68% of total shoe imports into India. (Source)
