To control the climatic menace of vehicular pollution, the govt is likely to mandate sales of only electric 3-wheelers from April 2023, and only electric 2-wheelers (with upto 150CC engine) from April 2025. With annual sale of 2 crore units, more than 3/4th of the traffic on roads counts these two vehicle types.
Vehicles registered until the above cutoff dates will not get affected. The panel has also proposed to double the direct subsidy for electric 3 wheelers (Rs 20,000 PKW). (Source)
