Recycled clothing manufacturer UNIREC has raised $190,000 (about Rs 1.5 crore) in a seed round led by BeyondSeed which is a Singapore-based company.
The company plans to allocate the funds towards market expansion and intensify research & development efforts for the creation of innovative and sustainable fabrics, UNIREC stated in a press release.
Founded in 2021 by Kapil Bhatia, UNIREC, is a sustainable brand producing clothing made from recycled PET bottles. The brand aims to create a sustainable world, ensuring zero effect on climate and zero defects in the products manufactured. Its product range includes formal jackets, sleeveless jackets, trousers, shirts, and t-shirts.
UNIREC currently sells via e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart.
According to the Mumbai-based company, each garment produced by UNIREC contributes to the recycling of 10 plastic bottles on average. Over the past 18 months, It is currently selling more than 25,000 garments made from recycled PET bottles. The company claims to have recycled 300,000 PET bottles and reduced over 100 tonnes of carbon emissions and the recycling of 6000 kilograms of plastic bottles.
