Getting a pet comes with changing and adopting a different lifestyle. Any pet parent would tell you how drastically their lives have changed after getting a pet. Along with all the happiness, these fur babies also bring along a lot of questions and queries to dog parents, especially first-time owners.

Vets in India can help only in the medical aspect and there is only so much self-research can teach you. How do dog owners tackle queries related to their pet’s behavior, exercise patterns or just simple guidance for the owners?

Founded in 2019 by Garima Kaushal and Arnav Sahni, Sploot has built a community-led platform that helps pet parents connect with each other. It focuses on educating the owners about the various needs, tricks, and hacks of taking care of their pets.

Kaushal said, “The problem is not in the intent. They (pet parents) always want to provide for their dogs, but they don’t have enough support to do that.”

The pet healthcare focused company uses the trial-and-error method every pet parent has gone through to guide other pet parents. The community led platform focuses on addressing the everyday basic concerns of a dog parent.

The platform puts out content through multimedia to help educate and assist their target audience through these queries and concerns. Along with this Sploot also holds seminars and sessions with canine nutritionists and behaviorists in order for owners to better understand their pets.

The company has additionally introduced a subscription-based dog food delivery and dog walking services on its app. What started as a daily delivery kitchen for dog food has now expanded to deliver fresh dog food all over the country.

These food packs were made with the intent of making the process of feeding your pet dogs a no-brainer. Subscribers have an option of choosing from 5 different meal options.

As for the dog walking services, the dog walkers are put through a training program that lasts a week. They are taught to handle and deal with dogs of different breeds and behaviors. They are also taught how to read dog body language and how to deal with reactive or aggressive dogs on walks.

The company has recently added a live location tracking service that not only lets the owners know the live location of the pet but also the distance covered, and the activity done throughout the walk. This service is currently available only in Gurgaon with price ranging around Rs 3000 per month.

“The aim is to collect data from these walks and build a database that would be personalized for each dog and its owners.” Kaushal explained.

The Gurgaon based company recently raised $500K in April 2022 from Info Edge-owned Redstart Labs and has a valuation of $3.3M post the funding round. It has about 20,000 monthly active users on the app. The company has seen an increase in the number of app downloads from 20,000 in December 2021 to 100,000 in December 2022.

The Indian pet care market was valued at Rs 74,000 Crore in 2021 and is expected to reach Rs 210,000 Crore by 2032 growing at a CAGR of 19.2%. With a market this large, the company is focused on expanding its two services and building a database to provide customized guidance to its audience.
