BigSpoon raises Rs 100 Cr in Series A round

Cloud kitchen startup BigSpoon has raised Rs 100 crore or $12.5 million in its Series A round from IAN, NB Ventures, Go-Ventures, Lets Venture, Grip Invest, and Anicut Capital. Celebrity investor Mouni Roy also joined the startup and would be associated with brand incubation and endorsements.

The Ahmedabad-based startup will utilise the fund to expand to over 250 kitchens in 75 cities across India, hire for leadership positions, invest in technology for clients, and backward integration for effective production and supply chain.

Founded in 2019 by Kapil Mathrani and Poojan Thakkar, BigSpoon offers multiple meals like North Indian cuisine, classic Indian thali meals, among others. Its brands include Makhni Brothers, Oven & Grill, and Meals 101.

BigSpoon claims to cater to over 150,000 diners every month. By the end of FY23, the startup plans to introduce two new brands and at least 150 new kitchens.

BigSpoon competes with the likes of Curefoods, Biryani By Kilo, Box8, Faasos, and FreshMenu among others in the cloud kitchen segment. Ankit Nagor-led Curefoods recently announced a $50 million Series C round led by Cayman-based Crimson Winter at a valuation of more than $400 million.
