Paytm, Zomato temporarily went down amid impact to Akamai services; back to normal

Digital payments company Paytm and food aggregator Zomato were among the digital platforms that experienced a temporary outage for nearly half an hour on Thursday night with users across the country experiencing accessing issues.

The outage came amid a global outage at Akamai, which also took down a number of other websites including Chase, AT&T and American Express. It is worth noting that the outage happened as Akamai experienced a DNS issue

“Our services are back online and working smoothly like before,” said Paytm on Twitter.

“Our app is down, due to a widespread Akamai outage. Our teams are working to ensure all orders placed are delivered asap,” Zomato had tweeted during the outage. The company further informed that its services are back to normal.

Akamai said it had informed users about the outage through an update. “We are aware of an emerging issue with the Edge DNS service,” the company had tweeted before fixing the issue.

“We have implemented a fix for this issue, and based on current observations, the service is resuming normal operations. We will continue to monitor to ensure that the impact has been fully mitigated,” Akamai tweeted after fixing the issue.

Last month, several news, e-commerce, social media, and government websites such as the New York Times, the BBC, Vice, the Guardian, CNN, and BuzzFeed News, Amazon and Reddit went offline due to a major global outage at the content delivery network or CDN provider Fastly’s end.
