Digital payments app Google Pay has integrated hyperlocal delivery startup Dunzo on its platform as a storefront. The feature would provide a slew of services such as grocery and medicine delivery, bike pool, pickup-and-drop facilities among others.

According to a TOI report, Dunzo is currently claiming to fulfill over 1 lakh orders a day as the demand for essential goods home delivery has increased. The latest integration with GooglePay would provide Dunzo access to an even larger set of users.

Google Pay, which was the most downloaded fintech app in February with 15.6 million installs, would hope to benefit from the online transactions as people use the services of Dunzo on their platform.

The nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 has led to an increased demand for doorstep delivery of essential products and groceries. There is a clutch of startups such as Swiggy, Zomato, Meesho, BharatPe, and Flipkart, among others who have either commenced offering or expanded their delivery services.

While Paytm Mall is eyeing the grocery segment via Grofers and MilkBasket, Jio Mart has also launched its services in 200 Indian cities.

On Wednesday, Google Pay rolled out ‘Nearby Stores’ across 35 Indian cities including Gurugram, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Delhi. Under this feature, users can find information such as location distance of the store, working hours, general, and drug stores along with which businesses can also highlight the list of goods available in stock on the platform.

Besides, Google has also made the three service providers of cooking gas – HP Gas, Bharat Petroleum, and Indane – live for all users of Google Pay to enable users to book and pay for LPG cylinders over the app.

It’s worth noting that Dunzo is a Google-backed company. The Bengaluru-based startup had raked in Rs 80.8 crore in a Series B funding round led by Google in December 2017. Last, it had raised $11 million capital in debt led by Alteria Capital in February this year.
