With the demand for doorstep delivery of essential products and groceries at an all-time high due to the lockdown, several companies have now commenced offering and expanding their delivery services. Swiggy too has now expanded its grocery delivery service to more cities.
More than a year after launching its service from Gurugram, the Bengaluru-based firm has now expanded into delivering groceries and essential items in cities including Delhi, Chandigarh and Jaipur.
“Swiggy is focusing all its efforts on solving consumer pain points quickly and in a safe manner. Basis our initial pilots, we have enabled the delivery of groceries and essentials across all tier 1 & 2 cities leveraging our extensive hyperlocal delivery fleet,” the company told Entrackr.
The Naspers-backed company is also in talks with several national and regional brands to scale the offering. Recently, it partnered with large chains such as Vishal Mega Mart and FMCG brand Marico to bolster its supply side.
While food orderings have witnessed a downfall ever since the lockdown, the expansion of its grocery vertical has come at a time when its rival Zomato entered the segment with ‘Zomato Market’.
Sensing an opportunity in grocery deliveries, many companies including, Box8, Snapdeal, BharatPe, DealShare, JioMart, NoBroker and ShopClues have opened their platforms for ordering essentials.
Social commerce app Meesho also launched grocery offerings to support their reseller network at a time when their core business is at a standstill due to pandemic. Entrackr had exclusively reported the development last month.
Besides, Swiggy has also rebranded its instant pick up and drop facility Swiggy Go as Swiggy Genie. After the initial launch of Swiggy Go in Bengaluru, its rebranded version is set to be available in many cities and already available in Mumbai.
Swiggy had started delivering groceries in February of 2019 via Swiggy Stores and competes with BigBasket, Grofers and Google-backed Dunzo.
