Zomato and Swiggy banned in Telangana until further notice

The Telangana Government has barred food delivery services in the state till further notice after a food delivery rider tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has also extended the statewide lockdown to May 7 after the total tally of positive cases in the state reached 858.

The CM said that companies delivering groceries such as BigBasket and Grofers will be allowed to ply in the state while no one will be allowed to order cooked meals from apps like Swiggy and Zomato from April 20. 

Recently, a food delivery executive had tested positive in Delhi after which contact tracing was done and 72 families in South Delhi were placed under quarantine.

Earlier in the day, the central government had cancelled its earlier order to open up regular e-commerce activity from Monday.
