ShopClues opens up for grocery and medicine delivery

To deliver essential products during the ongoing lockdown, e-commerce marketplace ShopClues is now offering sanitizers, masks, packaged foods, groceries, medicines and personal hygiene products on its platform.

With supply chains in disarray as a result of the lockdown and disruption in transport services, there was panic buying and hoarding by people on the day the lockdown was announced.

Since local administration advises people to not venture out to ‘break the chain’, e-commerce companies were the only option left for a significant chunk of urban dwellers. With now ShopClues joining in, it will definitely help more people to order essentials and medicines online.

“We want people to stop panicking and have access to these items. Please stay indoors. Stay safe and let us reach you,” said Sanjay Sethi, CEO of ShopClues.

E-grocers such as BigBasket, Grofers, Milkbasket, SuprDaily and several others have been seeing high traction since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the ‘Janta curfew’. A surge in demand when the lockdown was announced across the country further disrupted the grocers’ supply chain.

Several warehouses were not operational as either they were shut or their workers stopped from commuting and delivering by various local officials. However, e-commerce companies involved in providing essential services have now received assurance from the central government and local administration to run their operations smoothly.

Ever since the lockdown, several companies have come forward to help people order essential items online. Flipkart resumed its grocery vertical Supermart while BharatPe also let users order grocery from neighbourhood retailers.
