Online locker facility DigiLocker now has 43 crore policy documents stored on its app as eight leading insurance companies have integrated with the platform, according to latest data.

These companies include New India Insurance, ICICI Lombard, Reliance General Insurance and Go Digit General Insurance.

Interestingly, government-owned LIC India is not on the list.

DigiLocker now aims to onboard 31 more insurance companies across General and Non-Life making it a total of 39 companies on its platform.

To boost e-governance and support the idea of Digital India, the government had launched DigiLocker in 2015. The app allows users to upload and save all their government-issued documents such as Aadhaar, PAN card, driving license, property documents online.

In its four-and-half-year-old journey, the online service provided by Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), has been getting traction and millions of documents are being stored on the app for easy handling and avoiding red-tapism with utmost privacy and safety.

The use cases of storing documents online are plenty, and now the insurance companies have also managed to gain faith among policyholders who have started saving data on the app for a long time.

Aadhaar tops the list of documents shared on the platform, followed by PAN, insurance (two-wheeler), LPG subscription and vehicle tax receipt.

Till date, DigiLocker has over 35 million registered users. The platform has witnessed a 77% surge in registered users in the last 12 months.

Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are the top five states whose residents have adopted DigiLocker to store their documents.

The data shows the need for such platforms which can be leveraged to store important documents online, that is legally recognised and at par with the original document.

Recently, the Reserve Bank of India had officially granted recognition to the DigiLocker platform for Know Your Customer (KYC) process.
