Kids-focused news aggregator app KidzByte raises Rs 2 Cr seed fund

Kids-focused news app KidzByte has raised Rs 2 crore in seed funding from serial entrepreneur Pranay Goyal. One of the rarest startups in this space, KidzByte will use the funds to scale its technology, expand user base and resources.

A brainchild of Chetan D’Souza and Swagat Salunke, KidzByte combines media and technology to create a curated news platform exclusively for young readers to help them read on a daily basis and stay connected with the outside world.

According to D’Souza, the startup primarily focuses on keeping its readers updated with current affairs while protecting them from inappropriate content.

The app is updated with daily news from around the globe, across a number of categories like India & World, Career & Education, Science & Discovery, Weird & Wacky and more for kids and teens (grade 4 to grade 12)

With more than 20,000 downloads on app store, it also comprises features like animated videos in a newsroom set-up, ‘Read To Me’ audio functionality, in-built dictionary and quizzes among others.

To engage more users on its platform, KidByte offers a slew of contests like 15Under15, KidzByte Olympiad for which they can win prizes like Xbox One S, Lenovo Tablet, Kross Bike and more.

Touted as an educational news app for children, KidzByte also brings parents and educator on its platform through team-building and group-reading curriculums.

Some of the notable startups in this segment are – The Young Chronicles, News-O-Matic, to name a few. Of late, Google announced to launch a learning app Bolo for primary school children in India.

The multilingual app is aimed at helping the students in learning and comprehension of Hindi and English in a fun way.

Apart from being an investor, Pranay is the Managing Director of The Goyal Group and other Group Companies – Wedevelopment, Dive – Bar & Eatery, as well as the Director at Prysmato Operational Intelligence.
