San Francisco-based GitHub, a popular platform for software development and developers, has been entering India.

The company is planning to make a huge investment in the country. And to start operations in India, GitHub is looking for an experienced General Manager, who understand developers.

This leader will have the opportunity to create a vision for market expansion, building community and adoption within the software development industry, understanding the partner and SI landscape and develop deep partnerships with enterprise customers to support their business goals, GitHub said in a blog.

GitHub CEO Nat Freidman in a tweet said that India would be its third largest community.

Last year in June, San Francisco-based firm was acquired by Microsoft in a  $7.5 billion deal.

Post acquisition, GitHub CEO said that his firm will operate independently as a community, platform, and business. And will retain its developer-first ethos and be open to them.

Founded in 2008, GitHub was developed by Chris Wanstrath, P. J. Hyett, Tom Preston-Werner and Scott Chacon. It is mostly used for coding.

Earlier in January, Microsoft, to make software development more accessible to smaller groups of developers in India, had announced option to make repositories private free on GitHub.

Currently, GitHub claims to have over 31 million users on its platform. It further claims to offer a convenient and easy working environment to solve challenging problems and create important technologies.

GitHub aims to serve every developer on the planet, by being the best place to build software.
