Music streaming app Spotify might have made an entry into India this year, but apparently, it hasn’t affected the customer choice in the segment as yet.

As per a CyberMedia Research (CMR) survey, Gaana is leading the music streaming space in terms of consumer preference.

The Times Internet owned company is reportedly favoured by 25 per cent users, while Apple Music scored with 20 per cent and Airtel’s Wynk accounted for 14 per cent of the preferences.

Out of 150 million market monthly active users (MAUs), Gaana alone hogged about more than half of that share with 80 million MAUs, reports ET.

The app has 2.7 billion songs from all genres on its platform and is claimed to be witnessing 100 per cenr year on year growth in both revenue and paid subscribers.

Prashan Agarwal, CEO of Gaana, gave a detailed analysis of the reasons behind these results and claims.

He said that Gaana’s success is riding on multiple factors like voice assistance, a product that was launched last year in partnership with Google’s text-to-speech facility and now about 24 per cent users are utilising the feature.

Further, Agarwal states that their machine learning algorithms have improved significantly and 17 per cent of the songs are being played by users on the recommendation.

Lastly, he postulates that due to lyrics provision feature by Gaana for over 80k songs has resulted in a 2X jump in screen time of the app. A user spends about 28 minutes on the app in a single go on an average basis. Across a month, an average active user opens the app 11 times with over 300-minute usage each time.
