Developer of software technology for storage management for virtualized data centers, PrimaryIO has raised seed funding of $5.6 million from Accel Partners, Exfinity Venture Partners and Partech Ventures.
According to the company’s statement, the proceeds would be deployed primarily to expedite product development.
Silicon Valley-headquartered with a research centre in Pune, PrimaryIO, led by Vivek Pendharkar and Kumar Ganapathy has developed software technology for storage management for virtualized data centers. The company’s products enable virtualized applications running under VMware environments to run faster and cost effectively by eliminating storage bottlenecks and gaining control of data across the private and public cloud.
Vivek was the co-founder and CEO/COO of Virident, a company that specialized in enabling the use of consumer flash technology into enterprise and hyperscale data centres and served as CTO in VxTel.
Intel acquired VxTel in 2001, while Virident was taken over by HGST in 2013.
Vivek Pendharkar, COO, PrimaryIO said the beta version of the product was currently in customer trials and would be launched within a month. “We work with large enterprises where control over data and data protection is critical to them,” he said. It is initially focusing on customers in healthcare, pharma, insurance and the government space, reports ET.
PrimaryIO is a privately funded start-up with offices in Silicon Valley, California; Pune, India; and Vienna, Austria. The executive team hails from leading software and storage industry veterans from companies such as STEC, Symantec/Veritas and NetApp.

PrimaryIO (formerly CacheBox) had recently announced PrimaryIO APA technology with VMware vSphere through the vSphere APIs for IO Filtering, to accelerate the I/O performance of Tier 1 applications such as Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB and MySQL.
